Ontario firefighters honour fallen comrades

Firefighters from across Ontario march at the ceremony to honour firefighters killed in the line of duty or who died from a work-related illness in 2007. Sixty-three names were added to the Ontario Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial at Queen’s Park.

Fire damages Simcoe apartment, businesses
Oct. 6, 2008, Simcoe, Ont. - Fire has closed two businesses in downtown Simcoe until further notice. As the Brantford Expositor reports, Norfolk Jewellers and the Serafina restaurant at suffered extensive damage in the blaze, which began around 6:30 p. m. Saskatoon school closed after blaze
Oct. 6, 2008, Saskatoon - There will be no classes today at L'Ecole River Heights School after a Sunday morning fire on the building's roof that officials are calling suspicious. Family escapes house fire

Department takes hard line on safety
Oct. 2, 2008, Orangeville, Ont. - Orangeville's fire chief didn't mince his words Tuesday at Town Hall as the week of Oct. 5 - 11 was proclaimed Fire Prevention Week. "People just aren't getting the message about smoke detectors," said Chief Andy Macintosh. "After we leave here, we are on our way to lay charges against a homeowner." Teen charged in park fire
Oct. 2, 2008, Owen Sound, Ont. - A 14-year-old boy was charged with arson after part of a boat-shaped wooden playground structure at Bluewater Park was engulfed in flames Monday afternoon.
