B.C. fire grows to 160 hectares

July 23, 2008, Vancouver - Firefighting authorities say Edgewood is safe from the wildfire burning less than two kilometres way, but they're not taking any chances."We are taking all precautions necessary should this situation change," fire information officer Adam Brayford said yesterday. Faulty fan believe cause of Regina blaze

July 23, 2008, Regina - A malfunctioning fan is believed to be the cause of a fire at a Glencairn house Tuesday afternoon, the Regina Leader-Post reports. Angela Prawzick, spokeswoman for the Regina Fire Department, said a neighbour called 9-1-1 at 1:45 p.m. to report the fire. READ MORE

 
Firefighter illness tab more than $150 million

July 22, 2008, Toronto - Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty's firefighter legislation has cash-strapped municipalities scrambling to find millions of dollars to pay for workplace illness claims that date as far back as 1960. Charred body found in burned house

July 22, 2008, Toronto - The discovery Monday night of a body inside an abandoned Richmond Hill house has police awaiting the results of an autopsy to find out if York Region has its second homicide of the year. Teen charged in house fire

July 22, 2008, Cilliwack, B.C. - A 17-year-old Chilliwack male faces charges in connection with a fire at a house in the 8600 block of Elm Road late Sunday night. According to the ChilliwackTimes,a firefighter received minor burns, and a garage and greenhouse were destroyed as a result of the blaze. READ MORE
