Fiery wakeup call to absentee landlord
Oct. 7, 2008, Niagara Falls, Ont. - A fire-ravaged hotel that will soon have a date with a wrecking ball should be a wakeup call to absentee landlords, a local fire official said. Cause of blaze unknown
Oct. 7, 2008, Kingston, Ont. - The cause of a fire at the Invista plant in Millhaven on Sunday night remains unknown. As the Kingston Whig Standard reports, when firefighters from Loyalist Fire and Rescue arrived around 9:30 p. m., a large plume of smoke was coming from a large, 50-year-old warehouse northeast of the plant on the Invista property near Taylor-Kidd Boulevard, just west of Kingston. Firefighter reveals pain to help others
Oct. 7, 2008, Ottawa - Acting Capt. Larry Rusk was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after a number of difficult experiences on the job. Fire destroys Windsor bakery
Oct. 7, 2008, Windsor, Ont. - Fire ripped through a Windsor bakery late Monday sending thick smoke billowing into the night sky. As the Windsor Star reports, the blaze inside Barbar Bakery drew crowds of curious onlookers. Several fire trucks responded, along with police and paramedics. No one was in the building at the time. Fire destroys roof of N.S. home
Oct. 7, 2008, Enfield, N.S. - A mid-afternoon fire burned completely through the roof of a pretty Enfield home Monday. As the Halifax Chronicle Herald reports, firefighters from several stations rushed to a tidy home with light-grey siding at about 2 p.m. and saw thick smoke and flames shooting from the sides of the roof. Firefighters from across Ontario march at the ceremony to honour firefighters killed in the line of duty or who died from a work-related illness in 2007. Sixty-three names were added to the Ontario Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial at Queen’s Park.

Fire damages Simcoe apartment, businesses
Oct. 6, 2008, Simcoe, Ont. - Fire has closed two businesses in downtown Simcoe until further notice. As the Brantford Expositor reports, Norfolk Jewellers and the Serafina restaurant at suffered extensive damage in the blaze, which began around 6:30 p. m.
