Sept. 12, 2012, Peachland, B.C. – Officials monitoring the forest fire in Peachland, B.C., say there are just too many hot spots remaining to allow the last of the 258 evacuated residents to go home.
An aerial assessment of what's left of the fire shows at least 65 areas of concern in backyards and close to homes in the evacuated area.
Fire officials say it's just not safe enough to let residents go home after the fast-moving flames earlier chased them out.
Three homes and an abandoned house were destroyed and 1,500 people were quickly evacuated on Sunday when the fire raged out of control.
Okanagan officials say the earliest the evacuation order might change is this afternoon.
The fire, which grew to over two square kilometres in size, is about 85 per cent contained.
