Fund for injured firefighter draws criticism
Written by Laura King
Feb. 18, 2008
Talk about a burning issue. A firefighter in Windsor, Ont., was injured when the apparatus he was driving went out of control – apparently on a rain-slicked road – almost a year ago, on March 2, 2007.

The firefighter, George Copeland, remains in a wheelchair. Three other firefighters were injured but have returned to work.

On Friday, the Windsor Professional Firefighters Association announced at a news conference the Build for George fundraising campaign for a fully accessible home for Copeland and his family.

The reaction – from both firefighters and readers of the Windsor Star – was swift, sometimes supportive and sometimes incredibly bitter and accusatory.

Have a look at the Star website and scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the comments.
