A life-altering Indy experience
Written by Chief Scott Burgess, Windsor Fire Department, N.S.
Monday, April 26, 2010

The trip to FDIC in Indy with The Fire Within was the biggest eye opener for two of my members that they ever had in regard to the fire service, as it was for me last year.

These two members, one with 16 years and the other with over 30 years in the fire service, told me many times during our trip that this is a life-changing experience.

The experience of traveling with fellow Canadians and the great hospitality shown by The Fire Within, Task Force Tips and WFR just topped off the entire trip.

A excellent job by Chad, Jodi, and Neil did not go unseen, even when our members were off doing business and training away from the entire group.

The private meeting with Bobby Halton and his group just topped off the whole week.

All of my members, including myself have come away from this trip with a overwhelming proud feeling of what it is all about to be a firefighter and at the same time a Canadian firefighter.

The singing of O Canada and the display of the Canadian fallen firefighters for the very first time at the opening session on Wednesday will stay with me forever. HATS OFF to Chad and The Fire Within group for the message and knowledge you are trying send across Canada and North America for that matter.

I hope that many of the skeptical sit up and see the big picture as many of us have.

Excellent job, well done.
