Laura King MFCA notes
Written by Laura King

It was great to see Ian Laing of Central York Fire Services in Ontario here in Yarmouth as a presenter for the Maritime Fire Chiefs Association conference. Laing’s Billy Goldfeder-style presentation about seatbelt safety was honest and blunt and most certainly sent a message to the 200 chief officers in the audience. Buckle up!

I had an opportunity to go up in a Sutphen mid-mount, 100-foot aerial yesterday – a very smooth ride compared to some I’ve experienced. I’ll post photos Thursday when I’m back in the office – it’s a long story but trying to resize the photos from my camera to post here has been a less-than-enjoyable experience and hasn’t worked properly despite several efforts!

-

Fire and EMS crews in Toronto were busy yesterday responding to medical calls (and a brief blackout) as a result of the unbearable heat and humidity. It’s lovely here in western Nova Scotia and rather nice to be here instead of in sticky southwestern Ontario. Sorry!

Looking forward to this morning’s business session at the Maritime chiefs conference and nominations for the new executive. Should be interesting! We’ll keep you posted.
