Ontario names fire marshal

Jan. 28, 2011, Toronto - The McGuinty government has appointed Tadeusz (Ted) Wieclawek to the position of fire marshal. Wieclawek joined the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) on May 15, 1992. He has held various positions including executive assistant to the fire marshal, manager, issues and communications and program apecialist, risk assessment and municipal review section before accepting the position as operations manager, fire protection services section on May 1, 2003. He was promoted to assistant deputy fire marshal, fire protection services, on Sept. 16, 2009. He contributed to the policy and legislative development of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997, (FPPA).  

He has been closely involved in the development and implementation of comprehensive risk-management programs and tools to help municipalities meet the requirements of the FPPA, make informed decisions regarding the delivery of appropriate levels of fire protection services, and ensure that the OFM fulfills its mandate under the FPPA to monitor the delivery of municipal fire protection services in Ontario.   
 

Wieclawek holds a Bachelor of Arts, (Honours) in political science from Queen's University. He is a member of the Professional Standards Setting Body Committee and member (associate) of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
