Witnesses say flames broke out some time after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at a Home Hardware outlet in Neepawa, about 190 kilometres west of Winnipeg.
There were apartments above the store, but there’s no word of anyone being hurt.
Firefighters were at the scene for hours to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings.
Lyle Morrell, who owns a restaurant next to the store, says flames could be seen shooting upwards of 20 metres into the air.
