Firefighter injured in strip mall blaze

Jan. 13, 2015, Gatineau, Que. - A firefighter is recovering from minor injuries following a suspicious fire early Tuesday in an Ottawa-area strip mall.

Police have been called in to investigate the blaze at the Shawarma Leoni restaurant in Gatineau, Que., that caused around $100,000 in damage.

Crews were called to the scene around 1:20 a.m., where they found a fire raging in the dining room of the restaurant.

It took nine rigs and 25 fire fighters to put out the flames.

The fire was limited to the restaurant, but crews also ventilated smoke out of adjoining businesses.

It’s not clear how the blaze was sparked.
