Two men arrested after abandoned house fires
Dec. 22, 2014, Pickering, Ont. - Durham regional police say two men have been arrested after two separate abandoned houses were set on fire northeast of Toronto.
The first fire was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday at an abandoned home in north Pickering and police say the home was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.
The second fire was reported at about 11:50 p.m. at another abandoned house.
Police say an officer noticed a pickup truck parked on a hill just south of the second fire but the truck sped away as the officer approached.
A York Regional Police helicopter was brought in to help follow the vehicle and police say it was eventually stopped by ground units.
An 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, both of Stouffville, remain in custody and police say charges are pending.
Both houses were destroyed and will be demolished. No injuries were reported.
