Weather aids in fight against forest fires

However, provincial officials say warmer temperatures later this week could raise the fire risk back up again.
As of Monday morning, there were 35 fires burning in the province.
Of those, five were out-of-control, 24 were under control, five were being held and one was turned over.
More than 500 square kilometres have burned since April 1.
Of the five fires burning out of control, three are in the High Level area and two are near Lac La Biche, including one on the Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake Air Weapons Range.
On the weekend, some residents in the Fort McMurray area were put on alert because a road in and out of Saprae Creek was at risk.
However, by Sunday that fire was being held and wasn’t expected to grow under the current conditions.
Although the Alberta government has cancelled its provincewide fire ban, with bans being imposed by local municipalities about 70 per cent of the province is still under a fire ban.
There are about 1,700 firefighters, 159 helicopters and 28 air tankers positioned across the province to battle fires.
