Woman, children rescued from apartment fire

The blaze started around 3 a.m. in a three-storey building on Bedford Rd. near Darlington Ave. Eight units in the building had to be evacuated.

The mother and children were brought to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and are expected to recover.

Firefighters found elements in the storage space in the building’s basement that led them to believe the fire may have been deliberately set. The Montreal police’s arson squad has taken over the investigation.
