April 12, 2011, Edmonton – The Alberta government and a local county
will contribute $1.3 million to hire up to four full-time emergency
responders to work along Highway 63 to the oil sands. The
move comes after the Wandering River Fire Department, a small-town
squad of volunteer firefighters, shut down
operations last year, unable to handle a grim, growing workload. The Globe and Mail reports.
