Feb. 13, 2013, Ottawa – The Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs has named a new executive director who has a background in consulting and managing national organizations.
The CAFC said in an e-mail to members Wednesday afternoon that the appointment of Halifax native John-Paul Cody-Cox was effective Feb. 2. Cody-Cox succeeds longtime former executive director Don Warden, who retired in October 2011. The CAFC had posted the executive director position last July with a deadline of Aug. 17 but had extended the search.
The posting had sought an Ottawa-based candidate with credentials in business or public administration with experience leading multi-stakeholder organizations.
Cody-Cox is president/owner of Momentum Consulting Strategies, an Ottawa-based firm that works primarily with national sports organizations. He was previously the CEO of Speed Skating Canada and the executive director of Volleyball Canada.
Cody-Cox is bilingual; he has a degree in political science from Carleton University; he completed a masters degree in political psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University and he has an MBA from the University of Ottawa.
CAFC president Stephen Gamble said Cody-Cox’s experience in the not-for-profit sector will help the CAFC move forward.
“We are pleased to have John-Paul join the team,” Gamble said. “The breadth of his experience and leadership will position CAFC to continue to be the voice of the Canadian fire service while ensuring that the CAFC is well positioned to face future challenges and opportunities.”
