Battling the beast: the fight to save Fort Mac

July 28, 2016 - Jody Butz was one of three men tasked with figuring out how to stop a ferocious wildfire from consuming Fort McMurray in the early days of May. In the first 24 hours, he, Darby Allen, Dale Bendfeld and the teams they commanded fought hard, and without much outside help. They grappled not only with how to save the city, but also with whether their agonizing decisions would save lives – or further imperil them.
