Dec. 22, 2010, Mirror, Alta. – A family of seven in central Alberta is facing a bleak Christmas after a fire destroyed their home.
The fire happened early Tuesday morning in Mirror, about 65 kilometres northeast of Red Deer.
Firefighters believe the blaze erupted in the kitchen, but say an alarm allowed two adults and five children ranging in age from one
month to 14 years to escape.
Dean Angell, a volunteer firefighter, says the oldest son ensured his siblings were clothed before running into the cold winter air.
But Angell says the lad could not get back into the home to get anything for himself.
The family is now staying with friends.
