Burbidge, who has more than 30 years of fire-service experience, starts in his new position on April 2. He is currently a platoon chief in Vaughan, Ont., overseeing 63 full-time and 19 volunteer firefighters with Vaughan Fire and Rescue Services.

In a press release Friday, the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake said Burbidge has a certificate in public administration and a masters certificate in municipal leadership and has done extensive training at the Ontario Fire College and the Canadian Emergency Management College.

Burbidge takes over from acting chief Greg Warner, who returns to his position of training officer.

Ken Eden retired from Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire & Emergency Services in September after eight years as chief.
