CAFC expresses condolences on death of Montreal firefighter

July 17, 2012, Hamilton, Ont. - Today, Fire Chief Rob Simonds, President of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, issued the following statement on the line of duty death of Montreal firefighter Thierry Godfrind who passed away on Friday.

“On behalf of the members of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs,
I wish to convey our condolences to the Godfrind family on their great
loss.  Our thoughts are with all of Mr. Godfrind’s friends and
colleagues with the Montreal Fire Service. I wish to express our deepest
sympathies to Montreal Fire Director Serge Tremblay and the dedicated
team he leads.

The Canadian Fire Service is a closely connected community and the
loss of a firefighter is grieved by fire departments from coast to coast
to coast. Mr. Godfrind will be remembered for his commitment to public
safety and for putting his life on the line to protect his community.
Canada’s Fire Chiefs join Montreal residents and all Canadians in
expressing our appreciation for Mr. Godfrind’s brave service. Our
thoughts and prayers are with his family in their time of grief.”
