Nov. 17, Newmarket, Ont., – Central York Fire Services (CYFS) and the Town of Newmarket are excited to unveil the newest apparatus in the fire fleet – Z429 – a Zamboni, wrapped as a fire truck. The machine will be stationed at the outdoor rink at Riverwalk Commons (200 Doug Duncan Drive) to clear the ice all winter long. This creative campaign aims to break the ice on the fire safety conversation within each family and the wider community.

“Public education for fire safety is our number one priority which is why we’re excited to bring the ‘Coolest Fire Truck in Canada’ to Newmarket’s outdoor rink for the 2021-2022 season,” says Chief Ian Laing. “The pandemic restrictions have made it challenging to truly engage our community and keep fire safety top of mind while everyone is grappling with message overload. Adding Z429 to the fleet gives us an opportunity to meet people of all ages, where they are, in a safe and fun way to spark conversations about fire safety.”

While it’s clearing the ice, Z429 has one important message: Don’t wait, plan your escape!

CYFS works diligently to provide fire safety messaging throughout the year including door-to-door campaigns, online videos and attending community events. The fire smart Zamboni features a celebrity guest – Sparky the Fire Dog who has been spreading fire safety messages on behalf of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for decades.
