Nov. 23, 2012, Labrador City, N.L. – Investigators say they have been unable to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed an apartment complex under construction in Labrador City earlier this month.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says the fire inside the unoccupied complex could have been caused by equipment used by construction workers.

But an investigation failed to come to a firm conclusion because the building was so badly damaged.

However, police have determined the fire was not set on purpose.

The fire forced the evacuation of the nearby Captain William Jackman Memorial Hospital.

Patients had been transferred to a nearby church because smoke from the fire poured into the hospital.
