Chatham-Kent firefighters visit homes with safety message

Aug.10, 2020, Chatham-Kent, Ont. – When Chatham-Kent firefighters went to check on an elderly, vulnerable woman living by herself, they didn’t just make sure she had working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. They stayed to repair a loose handrail on her stairs and fix the plug on her kettle. It was part of a proactive approach by the Chatham-Kent Fire Department that Chief Chris Case credits with lowering the rates of fire death and injury in the municipality.
