Aug. 8, 2014, Trenton, Ont. – Via Rail says service is resuming after a fatal crash between a CN freight train and a vehicle in eastern Ontario on Wednesday.
The vehicle's driver was killed in the crash that happened at about 10 a.m. on July 6 just west of Trenton, Ont.
Via Rail spokeswoman Mylene Belanger says passengers on lines linking Toronto to Ottawa and Montreal were facing delays.
Jim Feeny of CN Rail says the crossing lights and gates were functioning at the time of the collision.
He says there were no injuries on the freight train or any damage done to the train, which was travelling from Montreal to Toronto and had two locomotives and 161 cars.
Quinte West fire Chief John Whalen says the driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene.
Ontario Provincial Police say the driver was a 29-year-old man from Quinte West.
They say their investigation is continuing but that foul play is not suspected.
Whalen adds there were no other people in the vehicle and firefighters were working to extricate the man's body from the car.
