Communities receive emergency-preparedness award

recognized today at the annual Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs’
Conference in Calgary for the development of a unique joint emergency
program featuring a comprehensive evacuation plan shared by both
communities.

Sept. 26, 2011, British Columbia – Two British Columbia communities were recognized today at the annual Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs’ Conference in Calgary for the development of a unique joint emergency program featuring a comprehensive evacuation plan shared by both communities.
Fire Chiefs Don Jolley, of Pitt Meadows, and Peter Grootendorst, of Maple Ridge, were on hand for the presentation of the 2011 Canadian Association of Chiefs’ of Police (CACP)/Motorola Excellence in Emergency Preparedness Award.
Len Garis, president of the Fire Chief’s Association of B.C., offered his congratulations to the communities. “This is just another example of the leadership that the fire service brings to public safety and emergency management, not only in B.C., but across Canada.”
The CACP/Motorola Excellence in Emergency Preparedness Award was launched in 2009 and is a prime example of the success of public and private sector partnerships in advancing the goals of emergency preparedness.
