Sept. 27, 2011 – Fire, police and paramedic services in Ottawa have joined together to present the National Capital Special Operations Symposium (NCSOS) on surface and dive operations in contaminated water.

Planning for NCSOS began in late fall 2010 to address need for awareness training. The Ottawa Fire Services water-rescue unit and Ottawa Police Service marine unit have been working and training together for several years and recognized the need for a broader training initiative, as many agencies and jurisdictions are affected by contaminated water. NCSOS will gather subject-matter experts together to give delegates an unprecedented opportunity to learn new information, techniques and technologies used to mitigate exposure to risks associated with contaminated-water operations.

Open to all first responders, NCSOS will be of particular interest to those within special-operations portfolios.

NCSOS will be held Oct. 13 and 14 at the Holiday Inn and Suites in Kanata, Ont. For more information, visit www.ncsos2011.ca
