Early morning blaze heavily damages Montreal nightclub
April 1, 2019, Montreal - A downtown Montreal nightclub was heavily damaged early Monday by a fire police have deemed sufficiently “suspicious” to merit an investigation by the arson squad.

No one was injured in the blaze at the Soubois nightclub on de Maisonneuve Blvd. near Peel St. The fire came to the attention of police after a security alarm was triggered at 2:20 a.m. and officers responding to the call noticed flames inside the establishment.
Firefighters arriving on the scene were able to bring the flames under control but severe damage had been done to the bar’s interior. A preliminary investigation revealed the presence of substances that fuelled the flames, and the investigation has been assigned to the arson squad.
Montreal police will also examine surveillance camera recordings in an effort to establish the circumstances behind the fire.
