Early morning fire forces residents from apartments

Sept. 1, 2010, Darmouth, N.S. - Halifax police say 30 people were forced to leave their apartments as firefighters fought a fire in their building.

No one was hurt in the blaze which broke out shortly before 1 a.m. on Queen St. in Dartmouth.

Fire investigators and police are trying to determine the cause.

The Canadian Red Cross says emergency motel accommodations were provided for nine tenants, while additional support was provided to
three more.

Eighteen tenants were allowed to return home after the fire was extinguished.

The fire gutted one apartment and caused extensive smoke and water damage to some others.
