July 18, 2012, Montreal – Thierry Godfrind, the 39-year-old Montreal firefighter who died in the line of duty at a category 3 fire on July 13 will be laid to rest with a civic funeral on Friday, July 20.

The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at Notre Dame Basilica in Old Montreal, and will be preceded by a procession from the Hall of Honour at the Montreal City Hall to the church. A reception will follow at the Palais des Congrès.

Representatives from the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, as well as others, are expected to attend the funeral.

Godfrind, a firefighter with the Montreal Fire Department since March 2010, was responding to a residential fire in a two-story triplex on July 13 when he was struck by a department vehicle. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but died a short time later. Both the Montreal Fire Department and the Quebec Occupational Health and Safety Commission are investigating to determine the cause and circumstance surrounding the accident.
