Fierce blaze guts volunteer fire hall

Feb. 3, 2014, Mount Albert, Ont. - Fire crews tried but failed to save a volunteer fire hall north of Toronto that burned to the ground.

Police say the fire broke out Sunday morning at an unmanned station in the village of Mount Albert belonging to the East Gwillimbury Fire Department.

There were no injuries but the municipality says there was significant damage including to six fire and support vehicles and equipment housed in the station.

Mount Albert is part of a municipality that includes East Gwillimbury.

The municipality's mayor Virginia Hackson says the area's fire chief is looking at how to fully restore emergency services to the residents of Mount Albert.
