June 14, 2024, Blue Springs, Mo. — The Standard Fluid Corporation and Fike Corporation have partnered to offer a replacement for the discontinued 3M Novec 1230 fire protection fluid.

Fike SF 1230 shares the same chemical compound as other competitors, said the company in a statement that noted the advantage to their product will be the transparency of the contents of each bottle alongside their testing and validation process.

“Standard Fluids maintains a thorough record and archive of products starting from production and testing and verifying in our US-based ISO 9001 laboratory,” said Luis Gonzalez, president of Standard Fluids, in a press release.

The system will use the Fike Impulse Valve, a patented technology which includes a Fike Axius rupture disc to provide unimpeded agent flow out of the valve, which supports longer pipe runs, small pipe diameters and greater design flexibility, the company said in their statement.

3M announced in 2022 it would exit per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) manufacturing and work to discontinue the use of PFAS across its product portfolio by the end of 2025.
