Fire claims four lives in northern Ontario

June 20, 2008, Deer Lake, Ont. – There is no word yet on the cause of a fire that has claimed four lives in the northwestern Ontario community of Deer Lake.

A man and three small children were killed when fire swept the home early yesterday in Deer Lake, about 300 kilometres north of Kenora.


Five other people in the house managed to escape after the flames erupted at about 5 a.m.


The cause is being investigated by the local coroner's office, Nishnawbe Aski Police, provincial police and the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office.
