Fire department to stop winter lake rescues
April 4, 2013, St. Catharines, Ont. – In a report to council, the St. Catharines Fire Department said both the Canada Coast Guard and the Niagara Regional Police no longer do winter rescues on the lake, so it doesn't make sense for the fire department to try, especially because so many of the calls are false alarms. The Niagara Advance reports.
