Emergency crews were at the scene for several hours fighting flames in two large commercial buildings just north of the city that caught fire early Sunday morning, but no one was hurt.
Estevan fire Chief Shane Code says at least four tanks on trucks caught fire and exploded, while the cold weather froze the valves on a water tanker used by firefighters.
Code says crews also faced the challenge of putting out a fire in metal buildings that didn’t have built-in measures to slow the spread of the flames.
Both buildings have been levelled and investigators will look for the cause of the fire once the debris cools.
There was no immediate word on the damage estimate.
