Stephen Eric Tremblett was released yesterday after conditions were set to keep the 49-year-old Sydney Mines man in his home at certain times while he awaits his next court appearance.

He was charged with 13 counts of arson in connection with a string of fires between May and August of this year in the Florence, Little Bras d’Or and Millville areas.

All but two of the fires involved abandoned structures.

Another member of the same department — 24-year-old James Clayton MacDonald — has also been charged in connection with the fires.

He is facing 16 counts of arson.

Tremblett was ordered to stay away from MacDonald as well as members of the Florence fire department and the owners of the properties that were burned.

Both Tremblett and MacDonald will return to provincial court on September 20th to enter a plea and election.
