The blaze broke out shortly after 1 a.m. at the metal scrapyard (on Woodbine Avenue).
No injuries have been reported and no evacuations were required.
Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire Chief Rob McKenzie says firefighters are allowing the fire to burn down before they try to extinguish it because water has proved ineffective due to the heat of the blaze.
He says the scrapyard contains car parts, refrigerators, stoves and other material.

McKenzie says no other buildings or homes are threatened by the fire and it’s not clear how the fire started.
