Jan. 10, 2014, Calgary – Firefighters had to hose down several large propane tanks to prevent them from exploding as they battled a blaze at a condominium complex under construction in Calgary.

Crews evacuated 14 nearby homes as a precaution after the two-alarm blaze erupted at a northeast neighbourhood overnight.

Large portions the four 10-unit condominium buildings were destroyed or heavily damaged, but there were no injuries.

Many of the units were almost completed and close to occupancy.

The siding on some of the evacuated homes melted from the intense heat.

One woman says at one point the heat was beginning to crack her windows.
