Firefighters remember colleague killed in crash

Sept. 3, 2008, Peterborough, Ont. - Hundreds of paramedics, firefighters and police officers sat in silence at Calvary Pentecostal Church yesterday, listening to nine clangs of a fire bell ringing throughout the sanctuary at a funeral service for one of their colleagues. As the Peterborough Examiner reports, Steve Van Hemme, 37, a Toronto firefighter and local paramedic, died Aug. 27 after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck. READ MORE
