Firefighters rescue cat from house fire
Fredericton - A fire has gutted the interior of a two-storey house on Fredericton's north side.
Platoon captain Mike Mizner says the blaze on St. Mary Street broke out around 5 p.m. yesterday and closed down the street for several hours.
Mizner says the fire was so intense that it melted siding on the building next door.
A man and a woman and two dogs managed to make it outside before fire crews arrived.
Firefighters rescued a cat from the blaze, but a second cat remains unaccounted for.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Canadian Red Cross says they have provided emergency assistance for the man and woman, who are staying with friends.
