Feb. 16, Napanee, Ont. – FireRein’s Eco-Gel has been officially recognized and verified for its effectiveness in the suppression of class A and class B fires by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

Eco-Gel, the world’s first certified 100 per cent bio-based water additive for fire fighting and fire prevention, was tested by UL Verification in a series of objective, science-based assessments. These assessments confirmed the validity and accuracy of product claims by way of rigorous testing, inspections, and independent assessments, including live fire testing.

“Eco-Gel has received the UL recognition mark for class A fires and a verification letter for class B fires. This makes our environmentally friendly, non-toxic and biodegradable Eco-Gel the only fire fighting product that meets stringent environmental standards for the extinguishment of fires and the protection of property,” said William Stewart, CFO and board chair for FireRein, in a news release.

Based in Napanee, Ont., FireRein was founded by a group of firefighters dedicated to developing products that are safe for both firefighters and the environment without hindering performance.

In a company press statement, FireRein stated that in recognizing that products with green claims traditionally used by firefighters may still contain toxic ingredients with harmful consequences to firefighters and the environment alike, they partnered with academics and the science community to create a 100 per cent bio-based, nontoxic firefighting agent that sticks to where it is applied to make Eco-Gel a safer firefighting agent.
