Firefighters from Fredericton joined other emergency personnel in responding to the crash reported around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
The crash occurred near Route 10 about 18 kilometres outside the city.
Platoon Capt. Steven Fraser says the crash site was located about 2.5 kilometres off the highway and into the woods and crews had to use off-road vehicles and snowmobiles to get to the plane.
Fraser says the pilot, who was alone, was able to make contact by cell phone and was later airlifted to hospital in Fredericton.
The RCMP and Transport Canada are investigating.
