The Nose Creek settlement north of Grande Cache is the only populated area under a mandatory evacuation order put in place Tuesday by the Municipal District of Greenview.

The area is remote and is south of the Wapiti River, west of Nose Creek and the Two Lakes Road and north of Township 61.

The district says work camps and industrial facilities are likely to also be affected by the evacuation order.

All agencies request that travel in the area be avoided and backcountry travellers should leave the area.

The district has also declared a state of local emergency, which means the municipality and other agencies can order an evacuation and control travel.

"If you are in the described areas you must leave immediately, close doors and gates (latch but do not lock them) and take all personal items with you,'' said a news release from the MD of Greenview.
