The Nibinamik First Nation declared a state of emergency and asked for the evacuation on Saturday night.

An unrelated power outage was also involved.

Ontario’s forest fire fighting centre says 155 blazes were burning as of Tuesday afternoon, with up to 30 new fires starting every day.

Fire information officer Deb MacLean says no communities are at risk because of the flames, but the smoke has been a problem.
