Feb. 14, 2012, Vancouver – The former treasurer of the Vancouver Firefighters Band has been charged with fraud, more than three years after thousands of dollars vanished from the band's bank account.

Jason William Davidson faces separate counts of fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000, and uttering a forged document.

The charges follow a lengthy forensic audit of the band's finances, which eventually determined more than $150,000 had disappeared.

Davidson, who was treasurer of the band from February 2003 to October 2008, is due to appear in provincial court in Vancouver on March 5.

Between 1994 and 2009, the Firefighters Band operated as a society under the wing of Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services.

A statement on the VFRS website says all ties were severed with the organization in 2009 and the department now runs its own band, which has nothing to do with the Vancouver Firefighters Band.
