Editor’s note: Fire Fighting in Canada and Canadian Firefighter writer Jay Shaw joins our stable of bloggers later this week with his first From the Floor post. Jay is a 10-year firefighter in Winnipeg and has covered issues for our magazines and website from labour relations to the tenth anniversary of 9-11 – all of which have elicited passionate and poignant feedback. We hope that Jay’s (always interesting, usually entertaining and sometimes controversial!) perspective and insight will inspire readers to participate in some great conversations and debate.
June 11, 2012, Winnipeg – Welcome to my blog. I’m going to cover issues that matter to you, the rank-and-file firefighter.
These issues should also matter to your officers and chief administrators, as your views are important; and since they, too, came from the floor . . . well you get the picture.
We’re going to cover your likes and preferences: lifestyle, travel, sports, health and fitness and, of course, tons of job talk.
I want to engage Canadian firefighters and put your views, opinions, and issues on the table.
I encourage you to follow along, connect with me on social media and send me ideas that I can write about as, inevitably I will have a brain cramp every once in a while and I want to keep it fresh, about you, and always relevant.
Keep watching – the first post will appear on Friday, June 15.
