March 2007 – Grande Prairie, Alta., fire fighters have asked the city’s protective services committee to give official recognition of an annual remembrance parade to honour fire fighters who have fallen in the line of duty, and the city has given its unanimous support.
The move follows a unanimous vote by the 48th biennial International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) in Toronto to recognize Sept. 11 – the anniversary date of the World Trade Center attacks of 2001 – as an annual day of remembrance.
Grande Prairie fire fighters held their first such parade on Sept. 11, 2006.
