The fire broke out at around
6:40 a.m. Thursday in the North Delta neighbourhood and the house was fully engulfed by the time police arrived on the scene.

“They attempted to gain entry but the flames and heat were far too great for our officers,'' said Const. Charlene Brooks.

Moments later, fire crews arrived and found three people inside, she said.

“Attempts to resuscitate them were made but, unfortunately, they all succumbed to their injuries,'' Brooks said.

Investigators have not yet identified the victims but they include two young men and a middle-aged woman.

“It is a crime scene at this point and we'll be working through it very thoroughly to determine the circumstances which led to this tragic outcome today,'' Brooks said.

Fire crews are expected to remain at the scene for most of the day to try and determine what caused the fire, Brooks said, noting the existence of the marijuana grow-op in the home.

“That's not to say it was the cause or that was the origin of the fire but (it) certainly would have complicated things,'' she said.
