Investigation continues in fatal fire

Aug. 26, 2008, Roseneath, Ont., – The Northumberland Detachment of the
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to investigate the circumstances of
a fire which occurred on Packer Road, Alnwick-Haldimand Twp on Monday
August 11, 2008.

On August 12, 2008 investigators with the Office of the Fire
Marshall located the remains of a person within the debris.
On Thursday August 21, 2008, the scene examination on Packer Road was
completed and OPP are awaiting the results from the Center of Forensic Science
as to the cause of the fire. In addition, a post mortem was conducted on the
deceased, now positively identified as Renate Falenberg, age 67.

Results on
the post mortem are pending from the Office of the Chief Coroner.
This investigation is ongoing and under the direction of Detective
Inspector Dave Quigley of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
