Regina firefighters battle industrial blaze

Sept. 12, 2017, Regina - Explosions could be heard and a ball of fire erupted into the air as crews battled a blaze in Regina's industrial area.

Neil Fairbairn, manager of ModSpace, says the explosion on Monday was from four 136-kilogram propane tanks.

He says there were six tanks inside but fire crews stopped the blaze before the flames could reach the other two tanks.

No injuries have been reported.

Fairbairn says he was in his office when he first noticed the fire on the loading dock.

He says he called 911 and ''got the heck out'' just before the propane tanks started exploding.

Fire Marshall Randy Ryba says they brought one tanker out to the fire because it was out of city limits.

When they arrived, one fire hydrant was out of service but crews were able to open the next two hydrants down the line.

There were some local evacuations as officials believed smoke from the fire may be toxic.
