Truck fire closes Trans-Canada

May 2, 2008, Woodstock, N.B.  - A brake problem is being blamed for a fire that destroyed a 16-metre trailer full of tires on the Trans-Canada Highway in western New Brunswick.

Fire chief Ricky Nicholson says crews responded to the blaze near Woodstock around 9 p.m. Sunday and were on the scene for several hours.


Nicholson says there was a malfunction in the brake system.


The highway was closed while crews battled the spectacular fire.


The trailer was destroyed, while the driver managed to unhook the load from his truck.

The driver works for Armour Transport and was heading for Montreal.
