Residents of High River, south of Calgary, can register to be contacted by phone, email or text message any time an emergency warning is issued.
The system will be used to give people a heads-up about severe weather or public safety issues involving utilities, fires, police matters and transportation.
Mayor Craig Snodgrass says the $10,000 cost is worth it.
The entire community of High River was evacuated last June when it was inundated by rising water from the Highwood River.
